I read in the Grauniad this morning that he made his first recording machine out of a gramophone and "car parts"!! Fascinating. His guitar was made out of a log.
I can remember, though, back in the early seventies: someone called (I think) Heifour Habbixxe made an instrument out of a log with GPO telephone contacts nailed to it.
