The gig you’re remembering (whoever you are) was in 1973 and at the Adrian Mann Theatre inside a college that was then called, Ewell Tech. The band was Urban Clearway and consisted of Frank Dymore (Drums & cymbals), Steve Hill (Fender Precision Bass), Peter Groves (rhythm guitar- CSL Les Paul), and Dudley (Watkins Rapier). Keyboardist Jiver Hatbox did, indeed, play the “fairground intro” to Mr Grove's famous tune but it was not the Vox. It was some nasty cheap electronic Bontempi thing that belonged to Mr Groves. This all happened some years before I (or even Gil) obtained the famous Vox.
