Oh well!!
It was only a matter of time until the old “ka-boom” returned to old London town!
But this is unlike the skyscraper business in New York; it's more like the commuter train business in Madrid.
The Spanish are used to bombs going off thanks to ETA. In London we can deal with attacks thanks to the IRA. Poor old New York (and the rest of Amerika) was absolutely traumatized by their attack because they had lived in a safe isolated place for decades; nay centuries and only saw violence overseas when they went looking for it. No wonder the USA made such a fuss! In Europe people aren’t so generally shaken by such events. We are hardened off.
And if a couple of hundred people got injured and about fifty died it’s not really any worse than a big train crash. It’s an awful smaller amount than the 1500 or so people killed by the USA in the “liberation” of Fallujah or the wholesale genocide in Rwanda.
London is still the fabulous safe and diverse place that it was the day before yesterday. There’s almost a feeling of nostalgia regarding these bombs! But they may frighten the G8 world leaders into doing something right. Conversely I hope it doesn’t drive up them further up the bellicose road towards retribution and “Western” dominance.
Who knows who planted these bombs? Was it the anarchists, the Islamic extremists, animal rights nutters or more cynically, the British Government furthering their “put the fear of God up the population in order to divide and rule them”?
