I suppose it's hard for us to understand what some artists go through with fans - I have my history of over-enthusiasm and inappropriate behaviour, believe me.
I do think though, that if an artist doesn't feel he or she can trust their fans or any particular fans, they shouldn't do the meet and greet thing in the first place. For those who really want to meet a favourite artist, the meet and greet is a very special event. The reaction of the artist to that event will have a profound effect on the fan. Any graciousness will go a long way, any ungraciousness will also cause a great deal of damage. If you don't feel safe, don't venture out.
