'Dissonance', a bunch of enthusiastic young bucks kicked the show off at the Lansdowne last night. They thrashed their way through some nu metal classics ending up with 'Enter Sandman'. Pretty standard fare, but delivered with conviction. The drummer's hair defied gravity even whilst he was headbanging and bashing the skins at the same time.
Trashed followed, coming on like Spinal Tap without the talent. There's nothing wrong with old blokes rocking out [see crush & bobkatz], but this lot were the archetypal loud loud loud, shouty non-entities that litter the path of rock and roll days gone by.
Despite having a 'sound man', a reasonable lighting rig and plenty of chest beating from the front man [sorry I can't call him a singer] the show fell mostly on deafened ears.
I dig Social Distortion, Crass and a bit of Oi! but this was poor quality.
They blundered on for over an hour and I struggled to hear a melody, or any kind of tune save for Kings of Leon's 'Molly’s Chamber'. Was I missing the point? No I don't think so.
Trashed are going to be playing a few shows around these parts in the coming weeks, so take your ear plugs, plant a big grin on your face and wear your spandex trousers tight, that way you might be able to glean some joy from the bastard Sons of Spinal Tap.
