Yes you grow them as a winter crop, sorry up here we do.
Ha . Just when the frost hit them during flowering it buggers up the forming of the seed pod and thats the part we want.
Just cover when the frosts are likly , so plant now as the ground is still partly warm.
If you can its best to plant seeds directly in place and protect from snails
