I think some people just aren't built to be more affectionate, and yes, what you say makes sense. It would be nice if they could just know you needed some affection. My ex was not affectionate so I can relate to that feeling.

I am glad you have such a nice BF and solid sounding relationship. Hope you have a great time in Las Vegas in July. Exciting! I am planning on a brief visit there myself mid-July when my brother comes to stay me for my birthday, but that is if all goes to plan.

The long-distance thing is hard but it also gives me the time to sort out a few of my own issues and let go of events of the past. While I am an Atheist, I do think that circumstances and situations in our lives sometimes occur because we need something. Either that or I am just determined to look on the bright side *wink*. After coming out of years of clinical depression it is so refreshing to actually be capable of doing that.
