Thanks for replying - that's very helpful, and I'll give it a go. I've realised since posting my original comment, actually, that the problem is in part to do with decision-making and not technique alone - I need to decide on whether I want silhouetted trees and dark blue skies as I'd get with your example or more detail in the foreground: I suppose I've realised I can't gety both. Back to experimenting... I like the image on your homepage, by the way - great lighting! adam
