I've always used PhotoShop noise reduction. It seems to work great for me, and saves a lot of time because you only need to capture a dark frame when you change your exposure/shutter settings (although it's good to take one every hour through the night as the am-bient (spelling in order to avoid the automatic bad word sensor!) and sensor temperature changes):
