I was recently in the company of Canadians and that brought to mind what an elderly relative (now deceased) had said. The relative was a Murdo Nicholson (I'm almost sure that was his surname). His sister who was alive at the time was called Nora. He and his sister lived together (neither had married)in Portree, Isle of Skye. Murdo and Nora were related to my granmother, Kirsty-Anne McIntosh, who was brought up outside Portree. My grandmother's mother was a Stewart, who had married a Ewen McIntosh and was about 30 years his junior.

Murdo had said that all the Stewarts bar one (whom I understood to be my gg Stewart) had emigrated to Prince Edward Island. I also remember them saying that the Stewarts had been very poor.

My grandmother was the eldest of seven (?) and she was brought up on a farm/croft outside Portree called Mugary. One of my grandmother's children (my Aunt) was christened Mary Stewart McArthur.

I think the Stewarts I am talking about left Skye in the late 19th century.

Anyway, this might be of interest to others researching the family tree and I would be interested to receive any further info. Sorry I can't be exact about names and dates.
