I understand there has to be very strong lobbying from insurances corp. But, those same insurance companies are still making very healthy (pun intended) profits in Canada. Simply because although everyone has basic coverage (here I speak for Québec, every province has it's own insurance plan), many companies prefer to offer health insurances to their employes, with broader coverage, government plans do not cover things like private room in hospitals, or dentists care (children are covered, though), or many things done outside the province health system...
So, insurances coprorations still make VERY GOOD profits... Beside, government plans do not cover cares outside their juridictions, so when you travel, you take private insurances... A very lucrative field, as most travellers are in good health...
It's not perfect, but it's there, for everyone...
Of course, it costs a lot, but then, it does provide a certain quality of life to everyone...
What I don't understand is why some ordinary citizen could actually be against it... I don't see anything to gain by opposing universal basic healthcare coverage. So, why?
