In addition to the "basic" info. below, I have what I once thought would be "the" best piece of info one could have when searching : my surname at birth, "Bloomer." But, despite that, I’ve had no success in my search, and would appreciate any tips or advice any of you could offer. Below is more info. I've collected or stumbled upon over the years: Born Oct. 22, 1949 in Queens (NY) General Hospital, and arrived with a congenital orthopedic problem commonly known as "club feet." As I mentioned above, my birth surname was "Bloomer" (no indication of my first name.) I believe I was at home for approx. 8 months, and then at St. Charles Hospital (an orthopedic medicine/surgery facility) in Port Jefferson, New York (on Long Island). I was adopted in 1951 at approx. 15 months old. My adoption was a private adoption/placement.
The non-identifying info. I received from the NY Adoption Registry is sparse, yet meaningful, and indicates that my Birth Mother was 28 years old when I was born and was Roman Catholic. My Father was a butcher by trade, and had died at 26 prior to my birth, although the cause of death was not indicated.
Also, when I was about 10 years old, my adoptive Father showed me the Adoption Order and that's where I learned that my "original" surname was Bloomer.
Anyway, I want to continue my search now, partly for me, and partly (perhaps more so) for my son who is very interested in what, after all, is his heritage too . . . we know that the children of adoptees also often wonder about their birth Grandparents, their heritage . . . and they have a right to know these vital details. So, any help -- general or specific -- will be enormously appreciated (an understatement).
