Last July I became the happy owner of strider club Northern oasis.As it was fairly late in the season we didn't get to sail too far from here {aside from the sail around from Kinsale} We live near Kenmare Co Kerry.However we had lots of nice day sails locally.Now I have had the winter to dream about all the lovely mini cruises possible around this coastline, its time to fix a few things on the boat.The biggest of these is the mast, during our sailing last year we noticed to our horror that with any kind of blow the mast bent alarmingly. Then add in a moderate sea and the scene became a bit scary !
The mast was obviously old and had been damaged and filled and then painted grey. It has the usual diamond setup on the spreaders.Will a new mast be bendy ? I would like to replace the mast with the bigger rig and eventually have better light wind performance (we spend a lot of time tacking against light south westerlys to get anywhere from here )
Does the bigger rig require/allow backstays ?
I have a quote from z-spar UK of 1800 stg for the standard mast ?? Lots more to ask you,though some recent messages have helped me too.
