Gypsy net beam question..would a 4X4 of red cedar work.

Is there any reason I can't use a 4X4 piece of red cedar to act as the net beam ?

Seems that would be strong enough. I have the plans for the box beam for the net beam but I have a piece of 4X4 red cedar that would work as well.
