6OZ. glass on the underside as an abrasion gaurd is a good idea here and little weight.

I assume the underside will be hit by waves etc so it's better safe ...IMO.

Now if it was glass reinforcing ,that would be heavier glass (18 oz )and a bad idea I agree.
