My wife's uncle (now 85) was a member of crew on AFD18 from the UK to Oran in 1943. An eventful tow as the AFD had to be turned loose due to rough weather and contact was lost with the tug. A Sunderland FB kept their whereabouts known until the tow could be re-started 3 days later. At Oran most of the crew was returned to the UK but Ron and another had to remain on board as "caretakers" for about 3 weeks until they too were returned to the UK. He would love to know its history from thereon. Your excellent website reports that AFD18 was with BPF in 1945, when it was towed to New Guinea.
