: : The number of ships lost a total of 4,010 ships and vessels between 1939 and 1945 from 42,000 ton battlecruisers to 9 ton landing craft - although this figure does include civilian manned support craft, such as water carriers, tenders, barges etc. which were employed by the Navy.
