I can confirm that Surgeon Captain James A Forrest was appointed to the gunboat WOODLARK 24 February 1903 at Hong Kong, for service in China. The Woodlark was usually based in the river Yangtse.He is shown as qualifiying as a Chinese translator March 1906. He was appointed to the cruiser ASTRAEA September 1908 at Colombo, again, for service on the China station. In July 1910 he was appointed to the CHARYBDIS for the journey home. His next appointment was to the cruiser ANDROMACHE 17 March 1911
