The Northcoates was a Hull trawler. Built at Falmouth in 1918 for the Royal Navy as the 'George Corton', she measured 277 tons (gross) 125.4ft x 23.5 ft. She saw little or no naval service, being put up for sale at the end of the war; sold out for commercial service as the 'Zencon'; in 1921 became the 'Zircon', Kingston Steam Trawling Company; in 1935 sold to Marr and Sons, renamed 'Northcoates', port number H-329.
Taken over by the Navy in 1939 and employed as a minesweeper.
She was lost 2 December 1944; foundering off Bognor Regis whilst under tow her engines having failed. Her wreck lies in position 50.39.41N 00.35.19W.
