TAY was a 'River' class frigate.

The fact that it appears after another name was quite normal for a 'small ship'; it meant that the first named ship (actually usually a shore base)was responsible for admin/pay etc.


LSE.52 was a 'Landing Ship, Emergency Repair'.
A number of Tank Landing Ships (LST) were converted to repair ships, with the tank decks fitted out as repair ships, equipped to undertake work on engines, shafts, propellers etc.
