I was photographing war graves in North Wales for the War Grave Photographic Project earlier in the year.

I came across a group of eight graves in the churchyard of St Cawdraf's church in Abererch near Pwllheli. These were all from HMS Glendower and were not standard Commonwealth War Grave Commission headstones. The headstone had a badge/crest of naval anchor and cross with a crown above.

HMS Glendower was the nearby Butlins camp which was used as a training establishment by the Royal Navy during WWII. I have wondered whether Butlins possibly paid for the headstones because I have never seen any similar ones anywhere else.

Just came across this site so thought I would ask here in case anyone with any knowledge of HMS Glendower.
