HI, my name is also Sheila. Anyway, my son has had it for about 2 years now, and NEVER had pain in the back, they always ask him, but never. The pain is stabbing in the gut. It comes, and goes. Sometimes for a few days, sometimes for a few hours. He eats very healthy, but I have notice milk may cause an attack. Sometimes I think too much excersice may also, but who knows. One of the best ways to tell if you have it, is have your lipase and amylase checked when you are in pain. Although sometimes these enzymes are not elevated, but if they are, then you at least know for sure.
Sheila
