Stools are a very important part for the chronic pancreatitis patient. Floaters are bad, sinkers are good. That is a general rule. Check this with your GI before you get excited about any self diagnosis.
Floaters tend to suggest there is unpriocess fat in the stoll which further suggests that your digestive system if not performing well or perfectly. Surprise, Surprise.
When your GI considers pancreas insufficiency, and nothing to do with flotaers or otherwise, they will call for a stoool sample which will be examine for excess pancreatic digestive enzymes. It appears that when the pancreas is functioning somewhat normally, there is alway an oversupply of amylase, lipase and protease in the stools and probably in a particular ratio.
I beleieve we all get floaters from time to time and that is not a problem many of us will seek help over. But when there is a lot, or consistantly a lot, and the "foul smelling" stool episodes some of go thru, then we are more likely to ask our medical professionals. I believe the GO+I is the right one to discuss this subject with.
If you have less than a full pancreas you maybe suffering from malnutrition or malabsorbtion this generally being refered to as pancreas insufficiency and is usually remedied by the adding of enzyme replacement therapy. Some of us take a handful of pills before we eat everything since that replaces the enzymes the pancreas is not producing,
As always, talk to YOUR medical people before considering anything, medical advice over the internet is not worth the paper it is NOT written on!
