But I finally got Oscar to step up onto a stick!
We have had ridiculously nice weather here in North Dakota the last couple days. Well, except for those that are deer hunting (Shaila)...it's the opener here this weekend and they all like it a lot cooler! Anyways...I decided to take advantage of the weather and get the cages out for a good hosing down, for what will probably be the last time until spring. And they needed...I was joking that it was getting to the point that my rescues needed to be rescued!
So, I had Oscar on the playgym, and he was letting me pet him and deal with a couple pinfeathers. When I went to step away, I tripped and hit the gym, which of course sent Oscar flying. He landed on the table. I decided this might be a good time to try to get him to step up on the t-perch, but then I noticed a large perch. I thought maybe that would be a bit sturdier for him, and it worked! It took a few tries, but I finally got him on it, and was even able to carry him back to the gym!
I then gave him a treat, which he dropped and I said "uh-oh". I gave the treat back to him, he dropped it, I said uh-oh. I gave it back, he dropped it, then Oscar said "uh-oh" (a first). So then it became a game, which I happily played with him for a few minutes. I'll pretty much let this bird get by with anything as long as it means some fun interaction with him!
However, later when his cage was back inside and ready for him again, I could not get him to step up on the stick again. He ended up flying on top of my very tall entertainment center, where he discovered I can't reach him. I see this as being a regular problem from now on, lol!
This was also Oscar's first flight up that high. I was excited about that. He's such lazy bird, he was pooped out last night from all the excitement!
