Cecil George Wilson completed his earthly life Thursday morning, April 16 at Brookhaven Extensive Care Center in Norman, Oklahoma. He was 93 years old. Cecil was born in Creek Mine, a small coal mining community near Henryetta on December 9, 1915,to Ned and Haley (Swindell) Wilson and married Mary Pippin in January, 1942. Prior to joining the United States Army Air Corps in 1942, he worked as a fourth generation coal miner in the Henryetta coal fields. Later he held a supervisory position with PPG Industries in Henryetta, and later still, Wichita Falls Texas. Cecil was an avid sports fan and outdoorsman, always ready to take his sons and their friends hunting and fishing. Likewise, he was always ready to take his wife dancing, especially if there was Swing or Big Band music to be had. Cecil was a faithful member of the Henryetta First Baptist Church and the Maverick Sunday School Class.
Cecil was always proud of his summer garden, which he maintained until his late 80’s. He was also an accomplished cook, winning more than 50 prizes at the Tulsa State Fair over a several year period. Cecil was a caring person, who up until almost the age of 90 was known in Henryetta for the pies, salsa and angel food cakes he took to (as he said) “the old people” who were like family to him. Cecil relished traveling and was known for his outgoing nature, a person who never met a stranger.
Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and his son, Bill. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James and Nancy Wilson of Oklahoma City, and their children Steve and Katie; his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Beth Wilson of Norman and their children and spouses, Scott and Laura Wilson, Julie and Doug Farthing, and Brian and Melanie Wilson. He left a great granddaughter, Bethany Farthing, and a brother WJ Wilson of Terre Haute,Indinia.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 20, 11 a.m., at Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Henryetta with Rev. Jim Paslay officiating. Interment will be at the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.
Visitation will begin Sunday at 12:00 to 8:00pm at the Funeral Home
