Johnny Joe Asbury a longtime resident of Henryetta passed away on May 10, 2009 in Okmulgee, Ok at the age of 79. Born on July 24, 1929 in Henryetta, Ok to Joseph Joe and Lillie (Lewis) Asbury. Johnny married Leah Thompson on 6-8-1957 in Wetumka and retired from PPG Glass Industries. Johnny served with the US Army during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was the VFW Past Post Commander, member of the Korean War Veterans Assoc (life Member), Boy Scouts, Henryetta Historical Society, Creek Nation Honor Guard, National Guard, 120th Eng. Bat., US Army Reserve, Korean War Veterans Assoc. of Oklahoma Chapter 89, National Guard Assoc. of Oklahoma and the Haskell Alumni Assoc. of Oklahoma.
He is preceded in death by his wife Leah, Daughter; Agnes Asbury, Son; Allen Asbury, Granddaughter; Dawn Perkins, Brother; Buster Barnett and his parents.

Wake service will be held Tuesday Evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel
Services will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Silver Springs Baptist Church with Rev. A.J. Tiger and Rev. Dennis Bible officiating. Interment with full Military Honors provided by the Creek Nation Honor Guard will be at the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.
