I still think "space dye vest" is a great song, and they've got a bunch of tunes that are OK.
But their singer is absolutely dreadful, and all the band does is show off its chops with no restraint and when they try restraint it ends up completely laughable ("Another Day" or ANY of their ballads). They take themselves way too seriously.
Their popularity has more to do with their longevity as a band, If they had broken up when Kevin Moore left the band I guarantee nobody would remember them, even though they'd already made their best albums.
