full moon in pisces 9/04/09
it's that time of month again! the full moon in our present moon cycle falls on friday, september 4th, at 9:03am PST. in the full moon chart the sun is at 12'15 virgo and the moon is at 12'15 pisces, it's polar opposite. full moons are the midway point in a moon cycle. the moon cycle commences with the new moon- which is about initiating things, new beginnings and planting seeds, makes its way to the full moon- which is about climaxes, culminations and pinnacles of what we began at the new moon, and then finally moves to the dark of the moon- the time to finalize, tie up loose ends, release and go within. there are moon aspects in between these three main events, such as the quarter moon and gibbous moon, that are bridges between the three. but for brevity's sake i am only talking about the new, full and dark right now 
so at this full moon we are in the cycle of climaxes, culminations and pinnacles of what we began at the new moon in leo on august 20th. that was a time of new beginnings of self, leadership, creativity and expression. this full moon brings those endeavors to a climax in neptunian, piscean ways. leo and pisces couldn't be more different. leo is solar, firey, masculine, the king, self-defined. pisces is lunar, watery, feminine, the sage, and dissolving. what began on a extroverted note is now coming to fruition on a very introverted note. leo is the individual ego and pisces is the collective unconscious. the two don't mix easily- but if painstaking inner work is undertaken it is the goal of spiritual paths. it's not about obliterating the ego and completely dissolving into the unconscious- you'd lose your mind! it's also not about building up a massive spiritual ego (a bad combination of leo and pisces!). it's about having the ego be the servant, not the master. we need a healthy ego to ground us into our bodies so we can do our spiritual work. we need to have our feet planted firmly on earth while still retaining the capacity to dream a thousand dreams. this full moon will bring the piscean dream into focus. what you began at the new moon on a solar, logical, masculine level- is it able to integrate with the lunar, intuitive, feminine level? a good way to assess this is to see the masculine and feminine dynamics around you- as they are reflections of your inner state. can you make peace with the masculine in your world? can you make peace with the feminine in your world? not just one or two of them- but all of them? can you find peace within? this full moon brings this polarity into focus. full moons are about polarities. the sun polarizes with the moon, they oppose each other by 180 degrees. the sun is solar, masculine and yang in nature. the moon is lunar, feminine and yin in nature. the two have a secret bridge that connects them, but until one has found that bridge for themself there is often a lot of projection done when polarizations come into the picture. when one is not integrated within the fragmented self will appear externally, as a projection. at this full moon watch for any projections you come across- yours as well as others. do the work to take them back, own them, heal them and make peace with them. that is the way to find the secret bridge, another word for finding wholeness
so this full moon in the virgo/pisces axis brings in the energy of the saturn/uranus opposition in the same signs respectively, the same opposition that began the day obama was elected and goes on throughout next year. we have had two exact oppositions already- one on 11/4/08 and the other on 2/5/09. the next one is on 9/15/09, 11 days after the full moon. this opposition is pitting the old against the new, the past against the future, status quo against change (saturn against uranus). as i said above, oppositions are opportunities for integration, yet often they instigate polarization and projection. this aspect is ushering in a much-needed paradigm change, and it requires that we each balance our saturn and uranus energies within, as well as without collectively. where ever one has been dominant the other will come crashing into consciousness to find balance, in true enantiodromia fashion (a jungian term where anything that goes to far to one end of the spectrum must come back around to the other end in order to find balance). this full moon is in the same polarized signs which symbolizes a pinnacle point of this dynamic on a very immediate level.
the saturn/uranus opposition requires that we each find balance between the side of ourselves that is solid, committed, grounded, practical and disciplined, and the side of ourselves that is changeable, eccentric, revolutionary, rebellious and independent. the full moon will bring these issues up to conscious awareness. where we are too much on either end we will feel either a stuckness (saturn) or a anxiousness (uranus) to shift the assemblage point within. saturn is in the same sign as the sun- in virgo- which shows the two masculine energies, solar/hero/sun and father/saturn, aligned with earthy, critical, precise, focused virgo. uranus is in the same sign as the moon- in pisces- which shows the revolutionary aligned with the feminine in mystical, sensitive, compassionate, illusory pisces. the feminine is changeable, even erratic. the masculine is grounded, even stodgy. finding a way for the two to communicate without it turning into a power over/power under dynamic is key. it all starts within- but where you see disconnection and drama externally you will see a reflection of your within experience.
essentially this full moon is ushering in change and is setting the stage for the next saturn/uranus opposition occurring next week. this will be the last of these opposition in the signs of virgo and pisces. the next two occur in 2010 in libra and aries. this is the fulcrum point at which we are being asked to integrate these energies and find balance within. balance between earth and water, intellect and emotion, mind and soul, physical and spiritual, the normality and the singularity/eccentricity. full moons have a tendency to bring up all manner of unconscious material due to the light of the sun (solar consciousness) fully lighting up the moon (lunar unconscious). with uranus on the moon we have the energy of change and sudden realization supporting the illumination of our unconscious material. using the energy of uranus to forge ahead fearlessly into the unconscious while using the energy of saturn to anchor ourselves in reality/consciousness so that the secret bridge that is found can be solidified is key.
another notable aspect in the full moon chart is the mercury/mars square in the signs of libra and cancer respectively. mercury squared mars last week (8/25) as well as this week, the day before the full moon on 9/3. mercury is the ruler of the virgo sun and as such is intimately tied into the full moon lunation. mercury with mars brings dynamic, intense, and passionate energy into conversation and communication. if handled well deep felt emotion can be shared. if handled poorly things can get out of hand and conversations can turn angry, aggressive and explosive. mars is in cancer- a sign that makes it hard for mars to express himself directly, so watch for passive-aggression in yourself and in others. mercury is in libra, where he values compromise and peace, but beware of over-compromising just to keep the peace. the best bet is to speak your truth with compassion, coming straight from the heart, while allowing others to speak their truth as well. where resolution cannot be found because of irreconcilable differences still retain honor and respect for the other. how you treat another is a reflection of how you treat yourself.
the ruler of the moon in pisces is neptune and jupiter (in classical astrology). the two are currently cojoined, along with chiron, in aquarius. this triple conjunction has been happening throughout the year and goes into 2010 (i have written about it extensively on my blog so look in the archives for more info). this conjunction speaks of massive opportunity for collective spiritual awakening and healing, and the full moon is directly connected to this energy bringing the possibility of awakening and healing to the immediate emotional level of what is going on right now in our lives. spiritual awakening is not a one-time event, it's an unfolding. this full moon can support you in unfolding more of your potential, more of your birthright, more of your soul- if you do the work that it asks of you
so that is the full moon in a nutshell! it's another turn in the wheel of life, one that is moving us forward bit by bit. there is much happening this month- mercury goes retrograde on sunday the 6th, pluto stations direct on the 11th and the saturn/uranus opposition happens on the 15th- and this full moon helps bring much to light for clearing, healing and moving on. check your weekly horoscopes for how it affects your sign and enjoy the ride!
