Pluto's transformative energies continue to work with us, creating a
backdrop for the other planetary activity this week. We've already
felt the discomfort (or perhaps the sting?) of this influence as
several layers of the facade have been torn away. What lies beneath is
far more vulnerable, but also perhaps far more real.

It is interesting that we should see the passing of the last Kennedy
brother at this time. I bring this up not to initiate a political
discussion, but to bring forward the symbolism involved in his
passing.

Pluto in Capricorn is involved with the dismantling of the old guard,
whether that be on a personality level or in the broader social
sphere. Included in that dismantling are old concepts of leadership
and authority.

We do not yet have a clear idea of what new ideas and forms will take
their place, but we trust that the intention is always to create the
opportunity for improvement. Just as when leaves fall from the trees
in autumn, we understand that there are higher purposes to what
appears to be death. The fallen leaves both protect dormant seeds
during the winter months and create fertile ground to nurture their
growth in the spring.

I've seen this dismantling of existing authority structures occur on
personal levels for many this week. Situations where individuals had
felt comfortable in leadership roles based on an old paradigm have
crumbled, leaving a sense of confusion and vulnerability in their
wake. Pluto will ultimately take us shopping for new clothes, but
first we must realize that the old coverings are outdated and no
longer fit the persons we are becoming.

One of the effects of Pluto, as he peels away the old covering, is to
reveal our shadow side. It is interesting that in these weeks when
Pluto's influence is so strong, we should see the passing of Ted
Kennedy, whose life was a stark example of the light and the dark held
side by side. The shadow seemed to be travel closely with him, as it
has in many ways with the entire Kennedy family.

It used to be that when a public figure crossed over, the news focused
only the positive aspects of that person's life. That no longer seems
to be common practice. In Michael Jackson's passing, and now in Ted
Kennedy's, we have seen clear demonstrations of that shift.

Perhaps it is part of Pluto's role, as he journeys through Capricorn,
to make sure we see the reality of our iconic figures, and no longer
put them on pedestals.

The planetary aspects this week indicate we'll continue to make
adjustments as we come face to face with those people and
circumstances that challenge us to change. You'll recall that the
Pluto-Mars-Mercury T-square last week corresponded with some conflicts
coming to the surface. Certain elements of that energy continue to
vibrate during the days ahead.

Mercury usually moves more quickly through the zodiac than Mars --
but, since forming a confrontational square with Mars last Tuesday,
Mercury has gradually been slowing his pace in preparation for going
retrograde this next Sunday.

Mercury is now moving so slowly that his brother Mars will catch up to
him this week, making it possible for the two to form a second square
on Thursday. We may see a next step in the challenges that manifested
last week occurring around that day.

The good news is that Pluto is no longer within range of strong
involvement in this second square, so we can anticipate a less intense
effect than before -- perhaps something more like encountering a
speedbump instead of abruptly running into a barricade with a sign
telling us to detour onto a side road.

The Full Moon on Friday will contribute to the emotional atmosphere
toward the end of our work week. The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon's
location in Pisces highlights our process of both honoring and moving
beyond the motivations, icons and accomplishments of the past -- and
also has a synchronistic connection to current events:

"An ancient sword, used in many battles, is displayed in a museum:
Through the effectual use of his will, a consecrated man can become a
symbol of courage for all those who follow in his footsteps."

As I read this symbol, the lines of people who have been filing past
Kennedy's casket over the past few days come quickly to mind. He
represents that "ancient sword" used in many personal and political
battles, a sword now being displayed in a museum-like setting. And, as
often happens when someone makes their transition into nonphysical,
his life work is becoming a "symbol of courage," as others are
inspired to take up the social causes he championed.

Within this Sabian symbol are other cosmic themes, as astrologer Dane
Rudhyar further explains (slightly abridged):

"The one power in man which is an assurance of victory is his own Will
Power -- and yet it is not really his own once he operates at a
spiritual level. It is, occultly speaking, the power of the
Brotherhood -- the energy of the Whole operating through the one-
pointed individual who has made this Whole aware of the need for its
use in a particular situation."

This interpretation of the symbolic intentions of this week's Full
Moon corresponds well with the work we are doing now: the alignment of
our personal intention and will with the higher purposes of our higher
self and oversoul.

It is a profound work we are engaged in. Some of it we are doing
consciously, but even more is being done on deeper levels, often
during the dreamtime. Like icebergs in the ocean, much more of us
exists in realms we do not usually see; the part of us we can see is
just a small portion of who we really are.

The merging with the oversoul may also be under the jurisdiction of
Pluto in Capricorn. As the old reliance on external authority is
dismantled, we have opportunity to replace those dependencies with an
understanding of the true nature and authority of our Inner Being, and
can learn to tune in to that level of consciousness for our answers
and guidance.

waking reality, you may find this blog posting of interest:

Mercury goes retrograde in Libra late next Sunday (Pacific Time).
While he is retrograde (appearing to move backward from Earth's
perspective), Mercury will supply the opportunity for us to review
recent decisions in some area of our lives.

Mercury's retrograde phase is a bit like going through the inspection
process on a house before signing the final papers for purchase. The
phase may feel inconvenient, but it is important. During the review/
inspection process, information that was not outwardly apparent may be
revealed -- information that is vital for us to know before we go
ahead with our plans.

Mercury is retrograde until September 29. By that time, he will have
retraced his steps back into late degrees of Virgo, making sure we
have analyzed all practical factors from an internal perspective
before making a final decision.

Class Announcement: I am pleased to let you know that I'll be teaming
with Seattle area healer and channel Johanna Hedge for her next
Ascension Meditation Workshop. Some of you have already attended one
of more of her monthly gatherings, and are well-acquainted with her
gifts and the insights and healing she is able to facilitate.

For the next workshop, in the late afternoon on Saturday, September
19, I'll be joining Johanna to contribute an astrological perspective
-- both on the current energies in general and on the meditations we
experience in class.

I'll be sending out a separate e-mail announcement in the next week or
two with more details. But for now, save the date! -- whether you live
locally or will just be in the area for a visit.

Many blessings to all this week,

Pam
